A Song About Judases
The Songs of Our Savior
Scripture/Text: Psalm 109:1-31; In this week's sermon on Psalm 109, Pastor Phill suggests that Christians, as sons of David, can and should pray difficult psalms like this one. He reminds us that Psalm 109 is not much different from the prayer all Christians are commanded to pray: Your kingdom come, your will be done, for the sake of God's holy name.
Sermon Outline:
1. When is it okay to pray Psalm 109? (verses 1-5) - It's appropriate to pray this psalm when you are a son of David, not one of God's enemies, as it reflects a heart aligned with God's purposes.
2. What can we say when we pray Psalm 109? (verses 6-20) - We can express prayers like "Your kingdom come," "Come, Lord Jesus," or "Give me justice," following the example that Jesus teaches us.
3. How do we pray with our hearts in this way? (verses 21-31) - We should pray with a spirit of zeal and love for God's name, a spirit of desperation and humility, a spirit of trust and surrender, and a spirit of thanks and praise.
