Act 6: The Restoring of God's House
Acts: Our Church HIStory
Scripture/Text: Acts 3:11-4:4; In Acts 3:11-4:4, we witness a stunning moment of physical and spiritual healing. A lame man, once excluded from worship, is restored to full health through the name of Jesus. But as Peter explains the miracle, it becomes clear that the healing was never about Peter, John, or even the man himself. Rather, it was about the humble heart of Jesus, the suffering servant, through whom all healing flows. This sermon explores three layers of humility in this passage: the humility of Peter, John, and the lame man who received healing; the ultimate humility of Jesus, who suffered and died to bring us restoration; and the call for all of Israel and all of God's people to humble ourselves by turning from our wicked ways, and receive the restoring and refreshing power of Christ. Just as the healed man had nothing to boast in but the power of Jesus, so we must come to God empty-handed, ready to receive. And just as Peter and John did not exalt themselves but pointed to Christ, we too are called to humbly carry His healing power to the world. God's kingdom is built on humility. Healing, refreshing, and restoration only come to those who humble themselves before Jesus and that same healing will flow through all of us who will humbly cry to and carry His name.
