Testing God

Stand Alone Sermons

Preached by: Nate Feder | 04/21/24

Scripture/Text: Luke 4:9-12; In our first ever Sunday evening service Nate Feder preached Luke 4:9-12 drawing our attention to the reality that Christ's obedience redeems our disobedience

Summary
Luke 4:9-12 highlights Christ's unmoving obedience and trust in the Father, which contradicts mankind's tendency to turn from the Father's promises. Christ, being fully God and fully Man, redeems every part of mankind's sinful flesh, giving us a great high priest who can sympathize with our weakness and yet never sinned. This hope and truth allow us to draw near to the throne of grace and receive mercy and grace in Christ at all times.

Outline:
1. Satans Attack
- Satan attempts to make Jesus prove what God has proclaimed. This attack would cause Jesus not to trust the Father and do what man has always done.

2. Christ Obedience
- Jesus, unlike all other men, trusts what the Father has proclaimed of him and sets his eyes on the Father turning from Satans call to test God.

3. Our Redemption
- Christ's redemption in the desert is a sign to us how Jesus, in his Humanity, never sinned and points us to the cross, where he continued in obedience to die for his people's sins. We take confidence in this because our great high priest even now intercedes for us and, through his work, has given us the Holy Spirit to point us to Him continually. Mankind no longer lives under the oppression of sins yolk but can live in the freedom of Christ's obedience.
